Hey! So, after working on a few chapters, I realize I’m in. Yet another accidental book writing project. Life in the ’Cosm was an accident and so was The Stealth Lovers!
And this past month, I dug up a 25-year-old manuscript that was pretty horrid—but also, not really. I’ve decided to upcycle it! I’ve swapped genders for several characters and now that I know my style of space-opera humour, I feel I can totally make this story my own. Well, it was mine, but it’s well…mine-r, more mine, minerily mine-like?
Anyway, here’s the title reveal:
This story follows the (mis)adventures of Catt Rohan, a rogue captain from the Zedex quadrant, and her overprotective bot, Norm. After a night of undiluted debauchery at the Dabnis Casino on Xyfyr-10, Catt wakes up with the mother of all hangovers, to discover Norm has taken them far away from her second home and to the matriarchal moon of Antosha. Catt normally can con her way out of a tote bag, but this might be tricky, since off-worlders are not welcome except for a small window during their year. And that window is now closed.
While she’s trying to figure her way out of this one, the Princess Kitia of Antosha is less than enthusiastic to marry…pretty much anyone…but especially not Langath, the boring son of an archduchess, who’s in love with his own reflection.
Catt’s trying to land safely and Kitia’s wishing to escape altogether.
What could possibly go wrong?
So, I’ve read the first two chapters to my first critique partner (CP), my husband. I can hear the sound of a thousand voices crying out: NOOOO, NOT YOUR SPOUSE! It’s okay, folks, he’s always my first sounding board. In fact, when Life in the ’Cosm was an itty bitty WIP, the husband unit’s comments about Xax and Viv prompted me to craft the Draga into the personalities they are today. (And those two became fan faves, leading me to take a stab at their origin story, which is coming out this fall!)
Anyway, The Broose really likes the changes I’ve made and is encouraging me to go forward.
So, here I go, retooling my first baby, which has been locked in the recesses of NEVER READ EVER, and being given a new life.
Oh yeah, and I love my villain. She’s wicked.
This will be my first book with a female protagonist. Catt and I share a chronic condition. No, not neuropathy, but alcoholism. I’ve been sober for almost three decades, but I wanted to explore some own-voices feelings in a fantastical setting.
Like I always seem to do.
As always, I’ll keep you posted here and on social media. At least now the title is out of the bag!
