A multi-coloured nebula of purples, blues, and aquas. A ringed planet. A little alien, resembling a fried egg with huge eyes, nonchalantly hurtles through space.

Life in the ’Cosm

When he’s not gorging on desserts, calming his hypochondriacal mum, or getting bone-crunching hugs from his warrior dads, Virj Ofreesin spends his time writing a fantasy novel about Frayda, the elegant half of the two-headed Dwa. Life is adequately mediocre until he learns the Dwa are gravely ill, and a mystical cure grows on a planet between two infamously warring worlds. Ignoring all warnings of danger, Virj embarks on the journey to be Frayda’s real-life hero, armed only with his stylus, and a boingy-haired nuisance who tags along.

Book cover: A stitched heart against a black stitched background. Title: We Shall Be Monsters, Edited By Derek Newman-Stille.

We Shall Be Monsters

My Monster CripLit story, The Hilltop Gathering, appears in what I’ve affectionately nicknamed “the Frankenthology” known as We Shall Be Monsters (Derek Newman-Stille, Renaissance). Frances Elizabeth, or Frank E., is the first disabled protagonist I’ve ever written. The story takes place on her sixteenth birthday, as the family comes together to celebrate it. She receives a gift from her mother that sparks quite the reaction.

Alice Unbound cover

Alice Unbound: Beyond Wonderland

My urban-fantasy/sci-fi mashup, A Night at the Rabbit Hole, starring a non-binary Alice and their crush Bunni, was not only published in Alice Unbound: Beyond Wonderland (Colleen Anderson, Exile Editions), but it was also reprinted in Exile Literary Quarterly. This was the first short story I’ve ever sold!
